You Are In This - Brothers (part 5)

via TJC

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people. ~Philemon 1:7

Brother: one related to another by common ties or interests ~Merriam-Webster

The band NEEDTOBREATHE has a song called Brother that really captures the meaning of brotherhood. One of the verses says “Everybody needs someone beside ‘em shining like a lighthouse from the sea. Brother, let me be your shelter, never leave you all alone. I can be the one you call when you’re low. Brother let me be your fortress when the night winds are driving on, be the one to light the way, bring you home.”

In TJC I have found many brothers that fit this model. I meet with them every Saturday morning and I even talk with a few of them throughout the week. Two of these Kingdom Men have accepted a very special role in my life. They are 2 of the 4 members of my “Life’s Board of Directors” . My wife knows them as “My Guys.”

One of them is my natural born younger brother Kenan. The other sticks just as tight, my big Kingdom Brother Norm.

There is not enough space in this DBO for me to articulate the impact these men have had on my life. They have been Paul, when I was a Timothy. A Johnathan when I wanted to evade like David. Over the years you have come to know these men too. Norm is TJC’s leader, the captain and driving force. Kenan has woven together a host of individuals to give TJC the voice that captures our hearts and puts our hands and feet into action. To summarize James 1:22, these men do not merely listen to the word, they do what it says. They are not deceived. In short, they don’t just Talk About It, they Be About it!

Daily Battle Order:

You are in This! Take some time today to listen to the NEEDTOBREATHE song Brother. Then reflect on the Brothers in your life. Who are “Your Guys”? Who sits on your life’s Board of Directors and has the power to speak into and shape your life? If it’s hard to name these 3 or 4 consistent men, then it's time to do some searching. I invite you to come to Gettysburg. As the Lord to open up your calendar and the eyes of your heart (Ephesians 1:18), meet some Kingdom Men and invite them to be your Brother. Cause, “Everybody needs someone beside ‘em like a lighthouse from the sea.”
