Wrestling: God Created and has a Purpose for You

via TJC

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Today’s Wrestling Topic: We believe God created the universe and gave to us a defined role and purpose.

As we kick-off this new series on Wrestling, keep this in mind – we are wrestling with topics that stand against the truth of God’s Word.

First and foremost, this wrestling topic of belief that God created the universe and gave to us a defined role and purpose is a question of belief. Belief in God’s Word. Belief that God’s Word is true. Belief that God’s Word is provided for you, defines your purpose, and shows you how to live out His purpose for you.

One of the best ways to wrestle through answering tough topics is to approach them with the 5 W’s and an H questions. Who?, What?, When?, Where?, Why?, and How?.

Let’s walk through the 5 W’s and an H for Genesis 1:1 to wrestle through these beliefs.

“In the beginning (When), God (Who) created (How) the heavens and the earth (What and Where). In this one short verse, God establishes that He created the universe – Who = God the Creator; What and Where = the heavens and the earth; When = the universe did not exist until He created it; How = by His creative power. So, we have 4 of the W’s and the H answered in the first verse of God’s Word, Genesis 1:1.

Belief that God created the heavens and the earth is all predicated on believing that God’s Word is true. Scripture interprets scripture, so let’s look at another verse from John chapter 1 verse 1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1

This verse establishes that God’s Word was there at the beginning, that the Word of God is God, and without God’s Word, “was not anything made that was made.”

But what about the Why? Let’s look at some more of God’s Word to find the answer.

…the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Genesis 2:7

So, after God created the earth, He then used the dust of the ground of the earth to make man, and He breathed life into man. From John 1:1 we learned and now know that in God is life, and His life is the light of men.

God breathed His life into man so that His light would shine through man in the darkness of this earth, and that the darkness of this earth has not overcome the light that God breathed into man. This is the answer to the question Why, and defines our role and purpose. To live to let God’s light shine through us in the darkness of this earth, and to know that the darkness has not overcome God’s light that He placed within us by breathing life into us.

Daily Battle Order:

The living out the answer to the Why question is the Wrestling.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26

In the midst of all that we are going through in life, God’s light shines in the darkness of this earth that we are living on, “and the darkness has not overcome it.”
