I will work with diligence and excellence. My labor will be honest and its fruits purposeful.

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Robert would likely never stand out in any crowd. Now that I think of it, he reminds me of Isaiah’s description of Jesus in that way. “The humble servant who was, in every way, ordinary in appearance…”.  Robert owned a business that, over time, had earned a sterling reputation, yet it required some physically nasty and demanding labor. He was a chimney sweep. We had met in small group at church, and were scarcely more than acquaintances… until God used Robert to impact my life at just the right moment.

I was recoiling from a separation and eventual divorce after a 27 year marriage. Suffice to say it was a low point. One Sunday, Robert approached me to offer prayer and support. In the process, I shared how I was struggling with focus and productivity in my sales job. Knowing he couldn’t pay me nearly as much as I was bringing in at the time, he offered to hire me. I took the job. I don’t think he necessarily needed me, but he sensed my need for a “break”.

I hadn’t held a job requiring physical exertion in at least 30 years. Robert walked me through the process, being careful not to push me past my limit or to cost me my life. Seriously. It was very difficult and downright dangerous work… I absolutely loved it. I believe it saved my sanity (possibly my life).

God placed this great man in my life to remind me of a Kingdom Man’s purpose in labor:

Diligence - He never gave up on a project, no matter the circumstances

Excellence - A requirement, not a goal

Honesty - Without a doubt, it’s the reason Robert stayed in business.

I grew to love Robert because of his love for Jesus. His purpose was to glorify God in his work… and he did that. The same example can be found in any circumstance. Get to work!

THE KINGDOM MAN’S CREED

I am a Kingdom Man. I am created by God to bear His image. I am a son and viceroy for my Fathers work. I am a warrior, lover, teacher and king.

I am a Kingdom Man. Like Joshua, I will be strong and courageous. I will train my mind and body for the battles to come. I will discipline my heart, eyes and tongue to be steadfast and faithful to the calling on my life.

I am a Kingdom Man. If a husband, I love and serve my wife, if a father, a loving father to my children. I will love and lead them as Christ loves the Church. If a brother, uncle, guardian, mentor or friend, I will give honor in all of my relationships. I will lead, teach, correct and train in the spirit of righteousness.

I am a Kingdom Man. I am called to break down barriers and free others from strongholds. I am a Peace Maker. My armor is Truth, Righteousness, Grace and Humility. I will stand in the gap for my neighbor to defend gospel justice for the marginalized.

I am a Kingdom Man. God is my provider. He has given me gifts and talents to exemplify Him with the work of my hands. I will work with diligence and excellence. My labor will be honest and its fruits purposeful.

I am a Kingdom Man with a Kingdom vision. Commissioned by Christ. My life is the Father’s. I am intentional. I will grow in my faith, be consistent in my actions and leave a legacy worthy of the race I have run.

I AM a Kingdom Man!
