With a wholesome, serious caution, order your behavior during the time of your residence as a foreigner, as a citizen of heaven living for the time being amongst the unsaved on this earth, which is a foreign territory governed by the god of this world…- 1 Peter 1:17
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority or governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. 1 Peter 2:13-14
We are ambassadors for Christ…- 2 Corinthians 5:20
First of all, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Disciples of Jesus are part of two kingdoms, with responsibilities in both. There have been many types of governments throughout mankind's history. One form of government is a monarchy, where a single king or queen rules absolutely. The Kingdom of God is a Sovereign Monarchy ruled by one loving and just Lord. A monarchy is not a democracy. In a democracy, the voting majority has limitless power over the minority. And ‘majorities’ can be as tyrannical as any king.Citizens of the United States of America live in a republic form of government, which is not a democracy. In a Republic, the people elect representatives to govern on their behalf. The main difference between a democracy and a republic is the extent to which the people control the process of making laws. In a republic, an official set of fundamental laws, like the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, prohibits the government from limiting or taking away certain inalienable rights of the people—even if a majority of the people freely choose that government.
Embracing being a disciple of Jesus certifies you as an ambassador to an earthly country and that country’s government. A disciple’s primary allegiance is to the citizenship within the Kingdom of God. However, as sons of the King, He has placed us in the United States at this time in history. So, we have our orders to function as honorable ambassadors. And ambassadors speak on behalf of their country of origin AND for the betterment of their earthly home.
Daily Battle Order:
While we may or may not agree with the government at our station, it is our responsibility to intercede and speak for the benefit of the United States. Think of it as your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty ). Living in the United States, as ambassadors of the Kingdom of Heaven, we are responsible for speaking when we witness assaults against the Republic. Consider the actions of our fellow citizens, Daniel, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego, and their ambassadorships in Babylon. Speaking the truth cost them time in furnaces and lions' dens. And their actions changed a king and government.
