Why Do We Live by A Creed?

via TJC

“These things I command you, so that you will love one another.” John 15.17

THE APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into Hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The Holy Catholic (universal) Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

Many of you who read the above creed will immediately recognize these words as the bedrock statement of the Christian faith. It may not always be in the exact words above, but millions of us recite some form of this creed each week as part of our worship.I’ve always looked at a creed as a mission statement, a commitment… but I find that something gets lost in the translation when I go to apply it to my life. I’m always pretty good with the statement. It’s the commitment that trips me up. But that’s still not the essence of living by a commitment or creed. The answer is in the question “Why do we live by a creed?”.

I’ve discovered an essential element in truly living by a creed… In order to stay the course, in order to “keep on keeping on” in any endeavor, there must be LOVE. Think about anything in your world that you have truly stayed with. There was some part of that commitment that you absolutely loved and felt as if you couldn’t do without it. In the Kingdom Man’s case, that “part” is Jesus. Our creed reminds us daily how much He loves us, and why we love each other, and especially why we love Him.

Above is a link to the Joshua Commission Creed. When you finish this Daily Battle Order, please click and read. If this creed is in keeping with your beliefs as a Kingdom Man, join us as we connect, pray together, and arm ourselves for victory. “Lock shields” with fellow soldiers of the Cross today. Never go into battle alone! Love does!
