Whose Heritage?

via TJC

“Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.”  Revelation 21:7

This week, we’ve been discussing our faith in the restoration of Eden. This is the truth that one day, whether Jesus returns to earth first (Acts 1:11), or whether we die here on earth first, Believers will be restored to the perfect harmonious state Man once existed in with God back in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1-3).

Today, we look at the inheritance we are promised, and how our faith in such should change our actions.

Channel your childlike wonder for a second… Imagine the greatest real estate investment you’ve ever seen. What does it have? I’ll draw mine out for you:

As you can see, I am a pretty simple guy.

What does yours look like? Perhaps a waterfall in your backyard? A car lift in your garage? 1,000 acres to hunt on?

Alright, we’ve got our dream investments. Now, imagine a person who is hard to love. They’ve mocked you, talked behind your back, even cursed you… You’re looking at this person in the face one day, and you say, “Hey, I’ve got this property I want to offer you. It’s free.”

This is similar to the inheritance we receive from Christ when we put our faith in him and make him the Lord & Savior of our lives. He offers us an eternal life, one where we can drink from “the water of life,” where every tear is wiped away, where there’s no death. God dwells with us, and we dwell with God, despite what we’ve done in our past.

This very inheritance is promised to us if we believe & repent. If this promise is true, what should we do? What does God want us to do?

First, we’d look forward to this like nothing we’ve ever looked forward to in life.

Second, we’d seek to taste this experience in the ways we can here on earth. How do we do that? By spending time with His Holy Spirit in the Word, in prayer, on PWs (Prayer Walks), worshiping Him with music, fellowshipping with other Believers in His Name…

Lastly, we’d turn away from all the ugly sin in our lives, because there ain’t gonna be any of that in this inheritance.

Daily Battle Order:

  1. Is this inheritance something you anticipate? Reading Revelation 21 cancels the numbness in our hearts.

  2. In what ways are you experiencing it now? Going on a PW is a great start.

  3. What sin in your life needs to go to further anticipate? Ask the Spirit. He’ll tell you!
