“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1Peter 2:9 (NIV)
This week we are looking at God-defined roles for Kingdom men. Today we look at God’s role for Kingdom men as Priest.
Hallelujah that Christ has defeated Satan and has called us to be a chosen people, a royal priesthood.
Men: when thinking of our priestly role at home, we may be quick to pop off Ephesian 5:22-24, aren’t we? Women should submit to us. That’s right. We’re in charge!
Really? Let’s also look at this verse: “But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.” 1 Corinthians 11:3
So, obviously we are not in charge. Christ is! We are His “under shepherds,” leading our families according to His will, not ours. Yes, we have been given a charge by the Master. We are to lead and govern our household. We should be the spiritual leader in our homes. It should be us who call the family to prayer. It should be us who lead our family devotions
Have any of these lies crept into your household?: That religion stuff makes you weak as a man. You don’t need church; it is full of hypocrites. Bible thumpers are losers. Let the wife take care of the spiritual stuff.
I’ve heard it too and those are lies from the devil. My response: I listen to Jesus. He has a role for me: I need to lead my family. My family needs me to be the priest of our household.
Daily Battle Order: Men: Take the time to write down what you consider to be God’s calling on you as “Priest” in your family, and how you can improve. If you don’t have a family devotion time, begin one this weekend. Pray over your wife, children (& grandchildren, etc.)
Discuss with your family at the dinner table tonight. If you have not led well (probably all of us), apologize and make a commitment to lead better.
