Where Is The Battlefield: Our Eyes

Via TJC

“When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.” 1 Cor. 13:11

In the age before the internet, nothing beat the fruitful cluster of knowledge offered up by the weekly Sunday paper. There was something for everyone wrapped within its voluminous bundle. A thicker Sports section for Dad, Parade Magazine for Mom, and for me, the real Cracker Jack prize at the bottom of the box--the weekly Television Guide! For me it was like finding a treasure map, a brickwork maze of programs, a dense jungle of stories that would delight my eyes and fill my soul.

Back then, television stations were either VHF (Very High Frequency) or UHF (Ultra High Frequency) and the huge difference between the two was one thing: money.

VHF stations carried your corporate networks, the Big Three of NBC, ABC, and CBS. You already had a good idea of what was going to be on their channels that week. They had been promoting it non-stop for a month!

But the local UHF stations were altogether different. They lacked the nationwide budget of the Big Three, so they couldn't promote their programs in advance. This made the weekly television guide both indispensable and exciting, the first place to go to find out what was happening that week.

Daily Battle Order:

In the same way, the Kingdom of God in this world will always be UHF. Quirky, offbeat, lacking in promotion, but carrying with it the mystery that truly satisfies. As a Kingdom Man, you have to choose what stations you are going to watch today, what channel or stream you will get your destiny from. What you watch, what you fill your eyes with, directs your destiny. Are you still enamored with the cartoons of this world or is your focus the deep mystery of Christ within you, the hope of true glory?
