The serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die! - Genesis 3:4
Sin is lurking at the door, and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” - Genesis 4:7
“He chose poorly!” - Grail Knight Sir Richard, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
We all desire to be wise and the ability to be wise without the Holy Spirit is seductive but it is also foolish. The Holy Spirit in us can give us direction and hints but he will not force us to follow God’s commandments. We run into problems when what the Holy Spirit wants clashes with our emotional desires and we choose our own desires, go against God and sin.

When I was younger, there was a car I really wanted. The 1970 Dodge Charger had a 440 cu Magnum V8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts. It was a HEMI with 425 horses at 5,000 rpm! Did I mention I wanted this car?
It had been about two years since I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. I enjoyed His peace and guidance, which led to a new job. I had money and I was able to upgrade my 1967 Volkswagen Beetle for THE CAR! This is the first time I remember the Spirit and me disagreeing.
The conversation began when I sensed a disturbance in my spirit. ‘But why? Lord, this is a good car and a great investment.’ In response, He said, ‘Walk away from this car.’ Clearly, the Lord did not understand! He did not know my type of car. This was a great deal, and besides…I had earned this Charger!
It is said that the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He allows us to walk down any path we choose and steps back if we start asserting our choices over His. I knew what was best. So He left me alone to choose, and I chose poorly. Can you guess what happened next? The Charger turned out to be a black hole that sucked my money in. After a year, I humbly asked the Lord to help me. I had made a mistake and sinned. He and I reviewed the options and after trading in the Charger for a used Toyota I was at peace again.
Daily Battle Order:
Sin is not simply lying, stealing, or murdering. Sin is deciding to override the Lord’s choice and insert our “good” idea. 1 John 4:1 says, ‘But test the spirits to see whether they are from God.’ However, it is equally vital to choose God once we notice our error. So if we discover He has a different way, choose His way the first time.
