Waiting on the Boss, Your Choice

“Be prepared, and keep your lamps lit. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will prepare himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and he will come up and serve them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.” Luke‬ ‭12:35, 37-38‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Back in college, when a professor was late we would leave after 10 minutes.

In a zoom call these days, it’s sort of the same - after about 10 minutes the participants message one another and typically drop off the call.

This week we have talked about choices; today is one of the toughest ones for it involves one of the rarest fruits - Patience and it’s partners faithfulness and self control. Christ tells us to stay awake for we do not know when the master is going to return.

It was really exciting accepting Christ and stepping into this new me, but as time goes on and frankly much of the sanctification feels like work, I begin to wonder when and where is the Boss. It makes it real easy to put up a “be right back (BRB)” message waiting on our Boss to return when we get tired, hungry, angry and just want to check out and grab a beer, surf the Internet, overeat, fantasize.

With a BRB attitude, we will miss countless opportunities. We are inserting our predetermined expectations and own priorities and likely testing by our forever Boss - God.

Daily Battle Order

Today during your zoom call; literally imagine that there is an unknown caller dialed in.  Does that listener hear you and your colleagues using that time to check on one another,  dig into the project you were assigned, do some brainstorming or does everyone sit muted and after a few minutes sign off. What if that was your boss using another phone - seeing who is the leader, who really cares about their assignments.

This week was about your choices - you are being evaluated and will be judged by The Boss - God. Get ready for the next couple weeks as we talk about His return and a world shattering set of judgments. You don’t want to miss this one.

"With a BRB attitude, we will miss countless opportunities." This is an attitude I have to eliminate from my life. Thank you for identifying it in plain terms!
