Victory in Finances: Having Margin
via TJC
“ Do not be anxious then, saying, “What shall we eat? Or What shall we drink? Or With what shall we clothe ourselves?” For all these things the Gentiles (pagans) eagerly seek; for your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6: 31-33
What is margin? It’s room to breathe. It seems in our daily life; we have anything but room to breathe. Financially, I’ve always been challenged with margin; that is, having enough and then some. There was a time in my life when I just didn’t have enough money to pay the bills. I’d go to bed worrying about how to pay the rent, the car, the gas bill…whatever. I’d wake up in the morning and I wasn’t rejoicing but worrying about how to pay the bills.
In the last sentence of verse 30, Jesus calls those listening, “men of little faith.” The description “of little faith” translates as cowards. I have found that I must not be a coward but rather do my part to have and create margin in my life; and it’s not easy. It’s a constant battle because our enemy doesn’t want us to have margin in anything! Whether your battle of creating margin is about money, or time and being so busy and so involved in so many things that seem urgent or a good cause that you have not built in margin for what God desires for you to have and that is peace. In verse 27, Jesus asks us a question,” And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span?”
Daily Battle Order:
Developing fruit in your life is hard work and not for cowards. There are requirements on your part in that development. Choosing to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” produces much fruit. Having no margin in your life and working hard at that is “fruitless”.
This Battle Order is from our commander in chief. “Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
