Today we Celebrate Mothers

“May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!”

If I genuinely reflect on my life and my lifestyle, does my life make my mother joyful? How great it feels for your mother to say how proud that she is of who you have become. That is such a powerful compliment.

I was raised by my mom most of my childhood. My favorite memory is of her kneeling beside my bed with me and saying the Lord’s Prayer whenever she got the chance. She was a hard worker and still is to this day. She worked as a waitress from the time when I got up for school until after I went to bed. I remember how hard it was for her and how much she struggled to make ends meet. She would go to work with splitting migraines and she pushed through. Not because she wanted to live lavishly but because she knew that my brother, sister and I depended on her. She always made a way to provide for us no matter the obstacles in her way.

 My mom has a lot to do with who I have become as a man. Her prayers over the years have saved my life many times. I was spared from devastating life blows and who knows what else because of her faithfulness. 

I can genuinely say that my mom is one of my greatest hero’s. She has pushed through so many trials to be the rock for her family. She is truly a gift from God. I want to honor her not just today but for the rest of my life. It will be such a privilege to take care of her in her old age and get to return the love and compassion that she has shown me. 

I challenge you. If your mom is still living, bless her with the gift that all moms want and cherish…. Your time. Go see her and if you can’t call her up. Tell her what she means to you. Show her your appreciation not with mere trinkets but with words of appreciation and affirmation. Pull her aside and pray over her and if you have the gift of a God fearing mom thank God for blessing you with her presence and guidance.

Our wives are just as precious to us. Reflect on and pay attention to what your wife sacrifices for you and your children. She literally gave her body for you to be a father. Let’s show them how much they mean to us. Gifts wither away but covering your spouse with prayer lasts for eternity. 

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.”

Prayer

Father, I thank you for mothers everywhere. I thank you for the way that you gave them a desire to nurture and have empathy for others. Thank you for making them everything that we as men are not. You saw what was missing in the recipe of this life and knew that a mothers love was one of the strongest bonds that you would create. You knew that this life needed a tender touch so you created mothers and what a wonderful gift to humanity it is. Please refresh them and cover them with your love and grace. 

In Jesus mighty name I pray Amen!
