The Supreme Judge and His Purpose

via TJC

For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. John 5:1-5

Why does there have to be a judgment of each person before they enter Heaven? Why does Christ judge and why can’t everyone enter? My young son asked me recently after pondering the bible reading at church and the question ignited a great conversation.  We have had a few birthday parties recently and I asked him if anyone walking on the street should be allowed to come in. He said no, only those people we know. I smiled, he was very close to the answer. I explained that we do not invite people into our house who wish to hurt us or our things and we talked about how people who hate us would be more comfortable out of our house than in it, interacting with us, the cause of their pain. So we have to judge who can come into our earthly dwelling as Christ does with Heaven.   Compared to our house though, Heaven is even more personal.  Each person in heaven is a part of God, accepted into the relationship between God the Father, Christ and the Holy Spirit through our love for Christ.  If someone does not love Christ, they are incompatible with God and cannot enter, not even breaking in through an open window.   Also, as we are all given the free will to choose, God will not force anyone to love him.  Thus there must be a designation of those who choose eternity with God and those who reject it.

Daily Battle Order

Today, thank Jesus for everything he does for you including honoring our choices, for or against Him.  Thank him for being so upright that he judges each of us properly every time and take time to humbly look at yourself, judging your actions, in preparation for your final exam with Christ.  This can also be a teaching moment for those around you to help them understand your thought process around making decisions.
