Steadfast Love

via TJC

“Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,

your faithfulness to the clouds.

Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;

your judgments are like the great deep;

man and beast you save, O Lord.”

—Psalm 36: 5-6 ESV

The Book of Psalms consists of songs of praise to God accompanied by instruments. This definition is true from the original Hebrew language in the Old Testament (Psalm 33:2) to the original Greek language in the New Testament (Ephesians 5:19).

As a singer (baritone) and musician (trumpet player), the Book of Psalms is absolutely one of my favorite books of the Bible. It is simply full of wonderful words given to us that can be put to music. Songwriters from across the ages have found inspiration from the Book of Psalms to create music and melody that stays with us, sustains us, encourages us, and makes us ponder the steadfast love of God.

As stated in today’s anchor verse, the steadfast love of God truly does extend beyond our reach. The righteousness of God truly is like the mountains God Himself made: mighty and strong. His judgments are deeper than we can comprehend, and His saving grace saves us as men and extends to His creation that He cares for.

Daily Battle Order:

Have you praised God lately for His steadfast love? His love that continues toward you and for you despite your shortcomings and failures? Just like in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-24), when you return to Him by seeking Him, His steadfast love for you causes Him to look for your return, and He runs to meet you where you are (Luke 15:20). Return to Him. Seek Him. Not only will you find Him, He will run to meet you. Start by praising Him in song.

An excellent song of praise entitled “Your Love Oh Lord” by the group Third Day is a great place to start your return journey to Him. Do not wait. Do not delay. Return to Him this very moment. He is waiting for you to embrace you and save you and love you with His steadfast love.
