Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
Recently my wife and I have been working through sleep issues with one of our sons. He seems fine during the day but as soon as he gets into bed, his mind starts to race, the light is both too bright and not bright enough at the same time or every shadow scares him. When this started, each time he came down stairs after bedtime, I would respond with anger. He was ruining our night! He might wake the baby! He wasn’t listening to me! My anger and confrontation do not help or solve the problem but humility with compassion and communication is starting to. Now, I try to get him to tell me what is keeping him up, his thoughts and fears. Then I help him work through each one. Sometimes his reasons make sense and other times it is more of an empty excuse. My wife and I have recently started woraking with him to construct his faith fortress each night. We ask his guardian angel to protect him and for God to send thousands of angels to guard his bunk bed, his room and our house. After these prayers we are all calm, not agitated or upset and in the last week there were a few nights where he even fell right to sleep without any problems! I needed to be humble and to work through the problem with our son, not just telling him how I think it should be solved.
Daily Battle Order:
None of us can read minds and thus we all must communicate with one another, listening and being humble so we can work together to grow. Today, come at any challenges you encounter with a foundation of humility so you can confront that problem as it is, not as you assume it should be.
