Recognize what is Holy

Via The Joshua Commission

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. - Joshua 1:5

My grandmother showed me what was Holy, though it took years for me to see it.

One time, I was a crying toddler. I had been caught doing something wrong. I was crying and in a panic and my cousin was laughing saying “oooooohhhhh you’re in trouble.”

She was there,  and she knew. I was crying and my cousin was laughing and she was there too.

I was ready to face her wrath. I remember her face.

She sang “The sun will come out tomorrow.” She was laughing. I started crying louder as if that was how I would make my point. Then, she revealed a peach from behind her back, as if it were a treasure. She offered it to me with a look of pure joy. She looked at me and she hugged me.

I saw it and recognized it. In her eyes: Love that meets anything where it is - Love that has no boundary and reaches out. The light of that Love was enough to melt me and before long we were laughing together.

I keep coming back to that story, reflecting on my rebellions. I keep thinking about how Jesus was there looking at me with endless boundless Love. When I argued with him: He gave Love. When I ran from him: He gave Love. When I said “go away.” He said, “I’ll still be here.”

Sometimes, I have trouble believing in that kind of love. However, I can recognize it and I know that the first step in spiritual warfare is to run, not walk, to your Father. He will always be there. If you do that, then you will recognize what is Holy. The “Advisor”, the Holy Spirit - the one who was promised – will be there to guide you.
