“If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond, But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
- Joshua 24:15 NIV
Joshua is one of God’s great holy men. His actual name Hosea meant “savior” Moses changed it to Joshua which means “saved by God”. A soldier, he spent 45 years as a slave, 40 years wandering the desert, and 25 years leading the Israelites. Joshua had the gift of faith - the ability to claim God’s promises to do great things impossible for man. He was a leader willing to help others. Joshua was prayerful. Joshua was sincere and helpful. God was Joshua’s guide. His characteristics were dependability and faithfulness to God’s will.
Holy is to be dedicated and devoted to having one mind with God; to agree with His judgements, to hate what God hates, to love what He loves, to measure everything by God’s word.
These are not skills, it is a daily challenge to avoid sin, strive to be like Christ, demonstrate fruits of the
spirit, deny yourself, observe the golden rule, seek purity of heart. Be faithful and humble in all duties and relationships. This is being spiritually minded in the business of life.
Holiness is a process - sanctification through the daily small things. Your holiness is a great reality that others see, know and feel. This is becoming the new creation abiding in Christ. This focus will be central for the rest of your life in everything.
