Today as we celebrate our past presidents and their achievements we also reflect on how our country was formed. This holiday is more than a remembrance of great presidents—it is a reminder of the values and sacrifices that laid the foundation for freedom, justice, and unity. We must also remember where we must stand as “one nation under God”.

Our country was built by many different cultures and ethnicities but its foundation was laid upon God's word and authority. Everyone knows that a solid foundation is essential to building anything to last. If we build anything outside of God's perfect law it will crumble.

Diversity is a beautiful gift that God gave us. When we see a painting full of many different colors blended together in perfect harmony we call it art. If we saw the same painting in only one color it would be called a wall. Our founding Fathers knew that diversity was what would make America great but they also knew that this country could only survive if God and his perfect law was the cornerstone that we all came back to. There would be disagreements but as long as we came back to that foundation we could work through any conflict and be in unity with one another.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In our remembrance of our past presidents we can’t help but remember their flaws. This is why God says put your trust in no man because none are perfect, only He is. We must pray for every leader because they are imperfect like we are. Whether we agree with every decision made by our leaders or not, we are reminded that God calls us to be people of faith, wisdom, and peace.

We must give Honor where Honor is due and we must pray diligently that God will lead our nation in His perfect will.

Let this day remind us that God has blessed us with freedom, and with that freedom comes responsibility—to love our neighbor, seek justice, and live as faithful citizens of both our nation and God’s Kingdom. Let us seize the moment and take action. We are to also be leaders in our homes, communities and churches.

Father, I thank you for this United States of America that I call home. Thank you for letting there be men before me that fought the battles that gave me this freedom that I have. I pray that you remain the solid rock on which our beautiful country stands. Help me to not take this heritage that I have been given lightly. Father please guard over those in leadership which the enemy seeks to corrupt and deceive. Guard over our leaders and give them discernment through your perfect will. Let our country stay rooted in your perfection, in your peace, in your humility. Father let this American continue to be “Home of the free and land of the brave”.

In Jesus mighty and perfect name Amen!
