In this series, we take a look into the Biblical disciplines that Kingdom families follow…
Worship 101
“True worship is any and every expression of obedience, praise, honor, adoration, and gratitude offered to the true God by a regenerate soul who knows the truth about God and loves him.” - John MacArthur
I walked into our church one morning a few weeks back and was swept away into blissful worship by an old hymn. The folks at our particular gathering have chosen a blend of worship music styles. Sometimes an old hymn gets thrown in there for good measure and I absolutely love it. Some days “Jesus shows up” sooner than later, and this was one of those days. Worship is easy and obvious when that happens. It’s just plain joyous.
Then there are times of absolute awe. Adoration and reverence like that of a violin virtuoso when a Stradivarius is pulled from the case. One of those “Ahhhhh!” Breathless moments when we stand in the presence of the unmistakable majesty and omnipotence of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I’m experiencing it right now as I write this. Thank you Father.
Then there’s this… Some days you struggle to climb out of bed. You go to work and 8 hours turns into what seems like 8 days. The enemy straps himself to your back and hangs on until you’re ready to lose it. Even your friends are on your case. When you get home your neighbor’s wife goes into labor and you have to keep their kids because it’s the right thing to do. What just happened? You just honored God with your obedience. That’s worship, man!
DAILY BATTLE ORDER
Using the statement at the start of this dialogue, keep a journal (even if it’s just inside your head) of the ways you worship this week, then try to multiply them as this week goes by. God is worthy! Worship Him in every way you know how!
