P.U.R.E

“People may be pure in their own eyes,

but the Lord examines their motives.” Prov 16:2 NLT

During an executive meeting several years ago, similar early warning signs seen in

previous organizations were developing, again. Silently, the author implored the Lord,

“How can we develop healthy, sustainable churches?!” Moments later, the author heard a

whisper, “...PURE.” After several months of prayer and pondering, the author felt like he

had a clearer understanding. “PURE,” became P.U.R.E., an acronym for sustainable

change.

Today we’ll unpack the broadest approach as this would apply to any person,

team, family, organization or community.

Presence- every move of God and personal life transformation must begin with an

encounter. When the living God speaks to you directly, everything changes. Hope,

Healing, Faith and Life all begin anew. This becomes your faith and your relationship.

Unity- the byproduct of an encounter. We now know God exists, and that we are

part of a much bigger plan. When a group of people share the same experience, the

mission becomes clear. Encouragement is helpful, but motivation is no longer required.

Relationships- a natural response from those who begin serving together toward

the same mission. Community begins and discipleship only occurs in the context of

healthy, authentic relationships.

Excellence- just as joy is a byproduct of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22), so too is

excellence a result of those who seek to please God rather than man. The heart is in it!

The mistake of most organizations is that excellence is demanded without a

relationship. It’s merely a job until trust occurs, and only then is unity established. We

cannot expect effective change until we have had an encounter with the living God.

So how do we create that culture? It begins with each person. Seek, for He is

listening (Is 55:6). Fast (Is 58, Matt 6). Read Scripture, if even just the verse of the day,

with friends or family each morning. Pray together, if even just the Lord’s prayer, each

night before bed, as an example. Facilitate an intercessory prayer team, if even just two

to three people, for your work project. Then, be patient.

Take a step of faith today, because it is the currency of heaven (Heb 11:6).
