Mom and Dad

via TJC

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deut 6:6-7)

Mom and Dad, this letter was never meant for you to read. Nobody should bury their son, but there are some things that I need you to know.

I was too young to understand that while I was growing up, you were growing up too.

I saw you, Mom. You never gave up on anyone, Dad or myself. You were my angel - our angel. You kept this family together. You were the first to love after anger, and the first to teach me about Jesus Christ.

Dad, I was gone before I realized that one of the only men who wants a boy to surpass him is a father. I was too selfish to see it when you were hard on me. I was too selfish to see that all you wanted to know was how my day was and all I wanted was twenty dollars.

I saw you fight and I saw you make up. I saw you sitting at the table worried about bills. Later, you worried about me getting into trouble.  I saw you grow apart from one another and I saw you rediscover each other. Love isn't always pretty but Love endures. Love deepens with time. You taught me that.

I was a jerk but you always forgave me.

There's something else that I want you to know. That time in high school when I got in trouble - you remember. I snuck out of my room that night and heard you both. Mom was crying. You were holding hands and Dad was praying. You were praying that the Lord would find me. In your sorrow and anger, you called out to God.

Mom and Dad - I love you so much. He did find me. I know we'll be together soon.

Daily Battle Order

Mother and Father taught with their words and their actions. They taught about love and forgiveness and how important it is to have a relationship with God. These are the best gifts a parent can give. How are you modeling your faith before the little ones in your life? How would they remember your modeling if you passed away today?
