MARY: A WOMAN OF FAITH

via TJC

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

I don’t know how to approach this subject, the faith of Mary. It’s stupefying. It’s miraculous. It makes no sense in rational terms. I guess that’s why faith is a precious gift from God and not something we can just gin up out of our own souls. This time of year brings many memories to mind. Memories filled with toys, rituals, family gatherings, religious services…

But Mary, she had none of these things. A Jewish girl from a podunk town who amazingly had found favor with the God of the universe. That favor came not from believing in a set of doctrines or dogma, but because she trusted God to keep his promises. She remained obedient to Him in the face of almost certain humiliation and shame. A pregnant, unmarried teenager holding on to nothing but the hope that God had given her through an angelic encounter, and now a child inside her womb… has more faith than people with every reason in the world to believe. What’s the secret?

“Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.”

Who says things like that? I’ll tell you who: It’s those who have encountered the true living God. It’s folks who’ve heard from the Word and done what it said. It’s people who are dangerous because they are broken and obedient instead of proud and rebellious. It’s people like Mary, the mother of Jesus.

DAILY BATTLE ORDER:

Faith is a gift from God, but you still have to be willing to give up everything for it. True faith requires us to step out into the storm. Faith asks us to persevere by Christ’s strength. Pray a fearless prayer by asking God to strengthen your faith no matter what it takes today. Trust Him. Believe. Mary did.
