Joshua 7:20-21
And Achan answered Joshua, “Truly I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I did: when I saw among the spoil a beautiful cloak from Shinar, and 200 shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing 50 shekels, then I coveted them and took them. And see, they are hidden in the earth inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”
The Bible says that we are in a battle with the world, the flesh, and the devil. It is important to note that for the believer, that battle is already won. The problem is that the dragon is slain… but his tail still swishes.
It was pretty much a foregone conclusion, at least in my mind, that I would split hell wide open no matter what when I was 14 years old. My algebra teacher would wear these low-cut dresses and lean in to explain how to solve a problem. What she didn’t realize was that what was on that paper was the least of my problems. Just suffice to say that my eyes were not fixed anywhere near that paper.
When we became Christians, we picked a side in the battle, even if we didn’t know it. One of the big time spiritual maladies mentioned in scripture is the lust of the eye. You don’t even want to know what happened to the aforementioned Achan and his family all because he saw something he wanted, willfully disobeyed God, and took it. Thankfully, that won’t be my fate because Jesus stepped in.
James wrote,”Resist the devil and he will flee from you”. Now put on your armor, pull out your sword and never give up. You are on the winning side. Jesus is your general. The enemy has been destroyed. He just doesn’t know it yet.
