And He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” Matthew 13:52
This week we will be focusing on Kingdom Values, including Wisdom (today’s topic), Action, Physics (cause and effect / Biblical if / then), Sowing and Reaping (generosity and the Currency of the Kingdom), and Shrewdness (how do we spend our time, talent, treasure).
In the passage from Matthew above, Jesus compares a scribe to a master of a house “who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven”. A scribe is someone who studies and writes. Through studying and writing, training takes place. This training yields treasure both new and old that the scribe, like a master of a house “brings out”, sharing this treasure with others. Where did this training come from, and what is this treasure?
The training came from the study of God’s Word. The treasure is the wisdom that results from the study of God’s Word. The present tense of “brings out” emphasizes the active sharing of God’s Word and the wisdom from it with others.
Daily Battle Order:
New treasure comes from the present study of God’s Word, and old treasure comes from the past study of God’s Word. You cannot obtain new treasure without present study. After present study takes place, old treasure from past study can be brought out.
Kingdom Man, are you looking for true wisdom? It is only found in God’s Word. Time spent in God’s Word is time well spent. In a world full of questions about what is true, doesn’t it make sense to spend time in the only true source of wisdom? Get into God’s Word and it will get into you and you will be a better man because of it.
I am commanded to have QTs that involve meditation on His Word! I did not realize until this DBO that Jesus calls us scribes of His Word. What an honor.
