I will work with diligence and excellence. My labor will be honest and its fruits purposeful.
Via The Joshua Commission
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24 ESV
I love to see things done with excellence. Don’t you notice when someone is both gifted and skilled at their work? Doesn’t it stand out when you see a man who works hard at being a good husband and father; a good son or brother; a good neighbor? How about a good craftsman, gardener, hunter? Maybe it’s an artist, a chef, or even an athlete. The list could continue but the observation is the same. When whatever is being done is done with all someone’s heart behind it, with diligence, excellence, honesty and purpose,it just looks different. It’s worth taking note. It’s worth taking inspiration for our own excellence.
However, it can be easy for me to get caught up in excellence for my own purposes. I can strive for perfection or work towards a standard that lacks real purpose. As a kingdom man it is so important for me, for us, to stay grounded in the real definition of excellence that is determined not by what we do but by who we do it for.
When my focus is on serving the Lord, my ability to work at any task, in any role, takes on a clarity of purpose that working for myself, for other people, or for the world’s standards can’t give. I find an emptiness to my efforts when I realize I’m working for the wrong reasons - which happens way more often than I like to admit.
When my relationship with God is tight though, when I’m spending consistent time with Him as the way to stay focused on Him as the reason for my work, it is just different. Working with all my heart isn’t about me, it’s about Him. He is worthy of my best because He gave me His best. His best is beyond anything I can ever repay through my effort. I can’t earn more of His love by working harder or with more perfection. What I can do is honor Him by serving Him with diligence, excellence, honesty and purpose.
Whatever you are working on today, pause and consider who you are doing the work for. If it’s for the Lord Christ, give it all you’ve got.
THE KINGDOM MAN’S CREED
I am a Kingdom Man. I am created by God to bear His image. I am a son and viceroy for my Fathers work. I am a warrior, lover, teacher and king.
I am a Kingdom Man. Like Joshua, I will be strong and courageous. I will train my mind and body for the battles to come. I will discipline my heart, eyes and tongue to be steadfast and faithful to the calling on my life.
I am a Kingdom Man. If a husband, I love and serve my wife, if a father, a loving father to my children. I will love and lead them as Christ loves the Church. If a brother, uncle, guardian, mentor or friend, I will give honor in all of my relationships. I will lead, teach, correct and train in the spirit of righteousness.
I am a Kingdom Man. I am called to break down barriers and free others from strongholds. I am a Peace Maker. My armor is Truth, Righteousness, Grace and Humility. I will stand in the gap for my neighbor to defend gospel justice for the marginalized.
I am a Kingdom Man. God is my provider. He has given me gifts and talents to exemplify Him with the work of my hands. I will work with diligence and excellence. My labor will be honest and its fruits purposeful.
I am a Kingdom Man with a Kingdom vision. Commissioned by Christ. My life is the Father’s. I am intentional. I will grow in my faith, be consistent in my actions and leave a legacy worthy of the race I have run.
I AM a Kingdom Man!
