IS THERE SUCH A THING AS “MR. RIGHT”?

    “Train up a child in the way he should go;

        even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

My grandsons are like most kids. Of course, they’re very unique and special as a result of being mine and being made in the image of their creator, but let’s be real and acknowledge that they also have a nature about them that is common to all humans… corrupt and sinful. Those who deny that latter characterization are asking for big trouble. They are the ones who consistently have really bad and ill-informed parenting skills. Which, in turn, produces an adult in the physical form but a pathetic child in every other way.

How to avoid this? How to produce a young man who is worthy of a good, Godly woman? That is the question, right?

Well I can now, at 66 years old, say unequivocally… that I’m still figuring that out. However, through observation and consistent prayer over the 2 aforementioned young men, I am learning that the implementation of God’s pure love (agape) is the key. That would be the type of love that always acts in the long term best interest of the object of that love. It ain’t for sissies. It entails pain and difficulty along with compassion and encouragement. It requires us to accept responsibility and provide restoration as well as to enjoy freedom and pause for respite. It teaches us that we are not the center of the universe, and that the giving of one’s self is the greatest reward.

How I’ve wanted to step in and “make things easier” for those boys so many times. Yet I’m now able to look back on my own experience… “Dad! Can I go to the car show with Randy and his folks? The real original Batmobile is there this year!” … “Son, that would be fine, but didn’t you promise your Mom you would sweep the garage and re-organize it today?” “Yes, but I can do it later, can’t I?” Dad looked down and shook his head. “You knew the answer to that before you asked it. Go change your clothes.”
