I got Beat Up

via TJC

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

We were drinking, of course, when it happened. All I’m willing to say is that it involved someone’s girlfriend, several active duty servicemen, and the parking lot of one of those dive bars just outside of the base. I don’t remember who said what, only my head getting stomped into the concrete and thinking very clearly that my life was over.

I’m a lot older now, but it was years before I thought about how to fight sin.

When I got tired of fighting sin, the Lord of Hosts appeared in my heart and said “That’s no way to fight: drunk with pride and acting stupid. When you cross that line, you’re in a fight with the evil one. You’ve offended the rules of this world, and he doesn’t want you to live, son.”

Next, the Holy Spirit said, “Now let me work through you. Stop also fighting me and we’ll fight together.” So, I stopped being angry at myself and realized that my only chance was to stay calm (even in a headlock) and run immediately to Jesus Christ and accept the promise of salvation. Isn't that why we call him Christ? – because he’s the only one. If I try to match wits with my sin, then I’ve already lost.

Finally, the Father said nothing but I felt fear and awe. No pretending: There is judgment. He obligates himself to be true, doesn’t lie, and He did say that there will be judgment. However, He paid the bill and that is how we escaped. Accept that payment! That’s the “light yoke”. That’s the “sheep’s door” that many reject, including me! Stoop low and stop judging lest you be judged. That’s a promise. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world, and that’s a promise.

To be an Ambassador who cares enough to fight, you really just have to open your eyes and see that you already are in a fight and it’s to the death. There’s no time to “care” enough to fight. I guarantee that you recently got punched in the face. So stay calm and run to Jesus, always, even drenched in sin like Peter was in water when he sank in the ocean: “Lord Save Me!” Yes you’re ashamed, but you keep swimming always, ok?

Then, share what works with your brothers and sisters.

Daily Battle Order:

Rebuke the evil one in the Name of Jesus Christ. Out loud. Go into the bathroom if you have to. Pray out loud for forgiveness of sins and claim the hedge of protection guaranteed to those who abide in Him. He will abide in you!
