Holiness and Our Annual Reminder(s)

via TJC

As each year passes, I often reflect on my personal life. I wonder what was and how things are now. I consider the lowest of lows at various times in life and am constantly drawn to the Psalms more and more. This is not an absolute claim, but aside from Jesus himself, it is quite possible that David was the most relatable to man and connecting us with God’s Holiness.

Sight and Sound Theaters announced the release of DAVID as their new on-stage production in 2022. I went twice that year. The story of David is captivating and mysterious. How did a man with such a convicting and strong start in his relationship with God go on to commit some of the biggest atrocities in human perspective?

The Bible can be tricky to read sometimes, because the chronology isn’t always in tandem. The on-stage production brings it to life and helps piece that puzzle together. The takeaway from watching David’s story is that every piece of David’s life is relatable to us in some way. What’s most important is David’s reminder of God’s Holy character. Psalm 103 describes David’s conviction and God’s Holiness perfectly. When you see the convictions played out on stage and through songs based on the Psalms, it is captivating, just as the Holiness of God is.

So many times, I have lived in Psalm 42 and then drawn to Psalm 103 as a reminder. The focus always becomes A Holy God. Christmas is one of two (Easter the other) annual reminders of why we must always turn our attention to God’s Holiness, evaluate our standing with God, and present our praise to Him for the fact that there is none other than a Holy God.

3 John 2 presents a wish to all believers; that we “may prosper and be in health, even as the soul prospers”. This Christmas, it is our wish that you are reminded of a Holy God who is gentle and lowly and gracious to provide us everything, including annual reminders. Yet, we wish more than anything that our DBO’s present an opportunity for your soul to prosper as well as a daily reminder that we must be in God’s word.

Daily Battle Order:

Read Psalm 42. Consider how a Holy God has been gracious to bring you through so much. Then read Psalm 103 and be reminded of your place in the presence of a Holy God. Here is a link to a song from DAVID (Psalm 22) that presents a beautiful reminder - Psalm 22 - DAVID Soundtrack
