I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
—1 Timothy 1:5
Do you have someone in your family (or who is practically family to you) that made a difference in your faith?
Paul wrote this (second) letter to Timothy about 33 years after Christ’s death & resurrection. Now I’m no mathematician, but I’m pretty sure Grandma Lois was born before Christ. That means before Christmas or Easter ever occurred, Grandma kept her faith in the God of Abraham, in the Messiah-to-come, in those promises God spoke to her through the prophet Isaiah: “...a son will be given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
She had a faith so strong, even her grandson’s friend knew about it.
My Nana passed away a few years ago. She was the matriarch of our family—always serving, always loving. Before she died, she gave me a wooden carving of an angel praying on her knees. It sits on my nightstand to this day. On the bottom of the wooden angel, my Nana wrote, “Keep the faith. God Bless. Love, Nana”
“Keep the faith.” Those words are so simple, yet they are seared on my heart forever. Even at times when I don’t feel like trusting God, I feel a sense of responsibility to look to Him because of my Nana’s encouragement sitting there praying for me on my nightstand. It might sound weird, but I feel “encouragement” is the wrong word—I treat it more as a command!
Kingdom Man, when we invest eternally in the next generation, God tells us we pass on our faith to theirs. We keep it alive through them, almost like a spiritual bloodline…
Daily Battle Order:
What are you doing to eternally invest in the next generation? (NOTE: This work is more important than any other you are doing right now!) Maybe you have a child or grandchild; maybe you don’t—all you need is a soul in front of you to further the Holy Spirit-ual Bloodline! Train the next soldiers of God’s Earthly Army! Pray for them! Encourage them in their faith! Meet with them! Feed them both earthly food & spiritual food!
