Getting Beyond Yourself

“Then David the King went in and sat before the Lord, and he said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me this far?” 2 Samuel 7:18

The book of 2nd Samuel tells us the story of David’s career and his accomplishments. He was, perhaps, the strongest King Israel ever had. He was a warrior, musician, poet, and a leader of men. He was also close to God. Remember, the Lord sought him because he was a man after His own heart. Yet he asks this question of God,

“Who am I”. For all of his accomplishments which David did throughout his life, he got beyond himself.

Going beyond himself meant accepting who he was and living his life in pursuit of God. His was a life of adventure, beauty, loneliness, romance, bravery, and cunning; to name a few. He had his shortcomings as well and paid a dear price in repentance but he accepted who he was and got beyond himself in order to pursue God.

About a year and a half ago, early in 2021, I came to realize that I liked the man God had created me to be. Over the past several months I’ve come to accept the man God has made me to be. In the past several weeks, I’ve come to realize the significance of getting over myself and pursuing God. Like David, I am a man after God’s own heart!

Daily Battle Order:

Take stock of who you are! You know your strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments, failures and yet you are the man God has created you to be! You need to come to the place where you like that man. Then, accept the man you are, and then, get beyond yourself and pursue God and His heart!
