“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for the anger of man does not work (accomplish) the righteousness of God.,” ~James 1:19-20
When I was asked to pick a gift of the Spirit to write on this week, I immediately jumped on “gentleness.” Now, what man in his right mind would select that? Someone who struggles with it. Don’t we all. We are quick to be gentle with children or the elderly or a friend at church, but we are usually far less than gentle with those closest to us, especially our wives.
I have a friend who really struggled with being gentle to his wife. One day the Lord rebuked him about this and drove him to the Word for answers. He asked some dear brothers for their favorite verses on gentleness. He began putting together a Verse Pack and memorizing verses on gentleness. Guess what happened! He started getting more gentle.
That’s a miracle, right? No, it’s not. It’s God. His Word is powerful and can transform our lives. The passage at the beginning of this DBO is one we could all learn from. We are to be quick to listen (yeah, that means turning off the tv and looking at your wife), slow to speak (we don’t give a response until she is finished) and slow to anger (well, that’s a big duh, right?).
Daily Battle Order: I want to give you these verses from my friend’s Verse Pack to use this week in your Quiet Times. Perhaps you struggle with gentleness also. May God’s Word transform you into a gentle man.
