Fruit of the Spirit: Wrap-up

Via TJC

You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.” ~Matthew 7:16-20 (ESV)

Today we wrap-up 2 weeks of looking at the Fruits of the Spirit.

These virtues, fruit, are not merely human efforts but are produced in the lives of believers through the work of the Holy Spirit. They reflect a transformed character and guide us for how we should relate to others, and with God.

Let’s start with the Daily Battle Order (Bottom Line Upfront-BLUF): How have you seen growth in your blessing of others?

Some of the things I learned (or remembered again):

  • When the Fruit is hoarded it begins to stink & rot. The fruit on our tree is for the blessing of others.

  • Fruit is outward evidence of inner life with Christ. That the spirit (“pnema”) is God’s breath, flowing in, and out of me.

  • The “tree” must be tied to good soil, deep down. If no life flowing through the tree, the tree eventually dies and is cut down.

  • I can't produce more fruit by working harder, smarter. I need to yield, letting God flow through me, to others.

  • There are many different evidences of fruit, all working together.

That's one person's wrap-up. How about you?

Daily Battle Order: How have you seen growth in your blessing of others? Discuss with someone close to you.
