Close Enough to Smell like Christ

via TJC

“ These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.’ ” Zechariah 8:16-17 (NIV)

I have heard that we should walk so closely to Christ that “the dust of his sandals is all over our face.” Imagine with me: What would you be like if so close to Christ, that you smelled like Him. The olfactory sense is the most powerful for triggering emotional memories; when you smell something, to process the smell your brain uses the same areas that it uses to process emotions and memories. Close your eyes and imagine walking close to Jesus and having the fragrance of his Love and Grace all over you.

Have you ever known someone whose very presence brightened and changed the atmosphere of the room?

My brother-in-law Cecil was such a person. He would walk into a room ”glowing” or as the kids say “on fire”. His spirit was different, powerful, kind and you could tell was directed by a higher source. You could feel, sense and smell the residue of Christ on him, and it made a positive difference for those near him.

Zechariah 8:17 encourages to not devise evil against our neighbor and 8:16 says to execute peace at our gates. What better way to obey the directive in Zechariah than to clothe ourselves with God’s loving spirit.

Daily Battle Order:

Who do you know that is like my brother-in-law – anyone? Then why don’t you be that person? Be that person who’s vapor trail changes the atmosphere in your meeting, at your home , in your church – take your direction from Zechariah and reacquaint yourself with God’s Love and Grace and be a difference maker for his Kingdom.
