(It’s the least you can do, right?)
“Let all things be done decently and in order.”- The Apostle Paul, to the saints of the Church at Corinth
Obviously, Paul was not directly addressing a messed up desk. He was, however, referring to a general precept that can have a profound effect on every aspect of our lives.
Right out of the gate I will confess that I have (many times) pushed away from a desk, workbench, or toolbox and uttered unholy words out of frustration because I could not make a project come together. So often the “culprit” was… you guessed it… my workspace looked like a war zone. I had avoided doing the necessary preparation to be successful and as a result my focus was on the wrong thing. I had no right to expect anything but what I had “earned”.
No other way to say this… Clean off your desk. Just do it. No excuses. Yes, there is a corresponding psychological and/or spiritual analogy that goes along with this directive. But right now, just go and physically clean off and reorganize that space that you have to look at every day. You will be amazed at the effect it has on you in so many good ways.
