Call To Arms

In 1776, the 13 colonies set out on a journey of self-determination, fighting for five years to overcome tyranny and explore the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, even then, the American experiment struggled—and continues to struggle—with contradictions around: whose life, whose liberty, and whose pursuit of happiness are worthy of these unalienable rights?

Over the next two weeks, we will set the historical context for the October 26th TJC Battlefield Summit at Kings Mountain, NC. This week, we focus on key factors and individuals that made this battle pivotal to the Patriot cause, as Thomas Jefferson noted when he said it “turned the tide of the war.”

“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.”

—Matthew 28:16-17

I am currently discipling Allen, an 18-year-old who has just started college.

As he transitions into this new chapter of life, Allen is in the process of joining a fraternity. Over the past 10 weeks, we’ve been discussing fundamental spiritual disciplines that every godly man should cultivate—such as spending Quiet Time with Jesus, praying, memorizing Scripture, and meditating on God’s Word.

Allen’s enthusiasm for these practices is infectious. Recently, he shared with me, “I can’t wait to show this to the whole fraternity! I really want to make a difference!”

This reminds me of Major Patrick Ferguson, the only British officer in the Battle of Kings Mountain. Fiercely loyal to the British cause, his mission was to rally support in as many towns as possible to oppose the Patriots. With great zeal, Ferguson cast his vision and recruited thousands. He raised up, trained, and empowered leaders from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared purpose, willing to fight and die for that vision.

Similarly, Allen is beginning to build a legacy. He is embarking on a lifelong journey of recruiting men into God’s army.

Daily Battle Order:

Today, consider this: How are you developing your legacy? What kind of army are you building for God? Who are you “leading up the mountain,” just as Jesus did? And where is that “mountain” for you?

If these questions feel daunting, remember that building an army doesn’t happen overnight. It starts with one soldier, then the next…

Follow me, I know the way to King’s Mountain! Join TJC and me as we step into a pivotal battle where local men united to ‘turn the tide’—for themselves, their families, and the nation. Experience your victory firsthand too! Register here:

Not buying todays dbo and tenor of it that Ferguson was a uniter and tying that into mentoring and quiet times. Ferguson intimidated loyalist and this battle was one of revenge for his previous battle field tactics specifically massacring patriots in their sleep with bayonets
