But wait, there’s more!

“When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.”

2 Samuel 7:12

“And your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”

2 Samuel 7:16

Reading through the 2nd Book of Samuel, the thing that gets me is just when you think “what else is there?” here comes more! A covenant between David and God! God speaks through the prophet Nathan and recounts what He has done for David, taking him from the pasture to rule over His people Israel, and that He was with David everywhere he went and cut off all of his enemies. This doesn’t come at the end of the book but in Chapter 7, we have 16 more chapters to go! David’s response to this is in verse 20, “For Thou knowest Thy servant O Lord God!”

As I ponder my life and what God has done for me, situations I got myself into that God provided a way out, Pleasures and treasures given to me, some squandered through sin, events in my life I will never forget because I grew through them; even the ones that hurt my heart. Bringing me to better know the man God created, I can say the same as David, “You know me O Lord my God!”

And I too have a covenant made by Jesus, a new covenant where the Lord says,” For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.” Hebrews 8:12.

Like David, because of this new covenant God has made with me through Jesus, my kingdom will be everlasting as well.

Daily Battle Order:

What will people remember you for when you lie down with your fathers?

Begin to ask those who know you best, your wife, children co-workers, close friends what is the one thing they will remember you for. Write them down.

Then, get over yourself and live your life of legacy.
