“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.’” C. S. Lewis
Some men find it hard to have a best friend. Life is busy. You get up at the crack of dawn, go to work all day, come home with enough time to take a shower, eat dinner and pray with the family. Then it’s time for bed only to do it all over the next day. It is hard to invest into a genuine friendship with the little down time that you get. At least that’s my experience.
Life gets tough and sometimes it gets lonely. Some battles we face can only be understood by a fellow brother. God says “ it is not good for man to be alone.” I’m sure that he knows that we have a tendency to seek solitude when life beats us down. Satan knows if we stay alone we are more susceptible to his lies and are easy prey. It’s like a herd of water buffalo. When they are large in number they are usually safe but when they become isolated it generally means certain death.
We must be the friend that we wish to have in return. When you get a call in the middle of the night. When your brother hits you with something that he is battling with. When they lose a spouse. Or whatever it may be. MAKE THE TIME….. one day you will need that friend to come and help you fight off that enemy as well.
“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24 NIV
Prayer
Father, I thank you for my brother! My best friend who is always there every time I need him. Thank you for always letting him know when I am at my lowest and pushing him to reach out to remind me of your truths. I pray that you continue to mold me into a friend that is worth having. Help me to mourn with my brother, praise with my brother and live life with my brother. Please bless him and keep him and his family. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
