Are You a Prepper?

via TJC

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

- 1 Peter 1:7 KJV

Recently, my wife and I watched the movie Leave the World Behind. A compelling movie to say the least and one that should make a person consider many things about this life. While some may contemplate whether these things happen now, or post-rapture is a conversation for another time. The movie prompted conversation and action on her part that, frankly, caught me off guard and enlightened me to something I did not know about her.

I believe it is all too interesting how little people prepare, but on the flip side, it is also interesting how many people go out of their way to prepare for anything and everything – careers, retirement, college, end-times, etc.

The “preparation” information is out there in abundance. Simply Google the word “prepper” and instantly you have three direct websites that give you a breakdown on everything you need to know and do to be “prepared”.

1 Peter 1:7, however, is talking about being prepared to meet Jesus face-to-face. It even says the preparation of our faith is much more precious than anything this world can offer or throw at us. It’s interesting how quickly we reach for the internet to learn how to prepare, but so seldomly or hesitantly we reach for the Bible to prepare. Here’s what I’m thinking: I would be willing to bet that if we were to pick up the Bible and read it for what it truly is, it would catch us off guard and enlighten us; and FAR MORE than a movie ever could.

In the front page of my Bible is this: “Always pray before reading scripture. Accept it as truth, and life, and ultimate authority; that God may transform us as only he can do.” Why then, is the Bible so seldomly opened and so slow to be picked up? – I’m speaking to myself here; you determine how this applies to you.

Daily Battle Order:

Prepping is one thing, but when Jesus pulls your card, or stands up off His throne, we better be ready. We better open that Bible one more time today; especially for us affluent Americans with multiple Bibles in our home who spend our time and money on preparing for so many other things. Ask your family tonight - are you prepared?
