Applying The Truth: A Firm Foundation

via TJC

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29

My step-daughter is a court stenographer. She literally “hangs on every word” that is spoken when she is at work. Often the future (sometimes the life) of someone in that courtroom is at stake as she records each spoken word with great care. At a moment’s notice she will be expected to reproduce an exact dialogue from her record. It is very important work. Still, it is not uncommon for some witnesses to lie under oath. They place no value on the truth… if they believe that a lie will save their own skin.

With that in mind, consider Jesus as He stood before Pontius Pilate, knowing his fate as the “lamb” who would be slaughtered for the sins of the world. When asked what He had done, the

Lord explained “my kingdom is not of this world” and that the very reason He was born was to testify to THE TRUTH. Pilate mockingly responds, “What is truth?”.

Now contrast the truth I spoke about in the first instance with THE TRUTH (gospel) Jesus spoke.

One is as unstable as shifting sand. The other is the solid foundation of eternal life with our Lord and savior.

“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” - Jesus (Matthew 7:25)

Daily Battle Order

The question is not “What is truth?”. The question for the Kingdom man is “How do I respond to THE TRUTH now that I know (and possess) it?” At some point today, stop what you’re doing and get on your knees, praising and lifting up the name of Jesus in thanksgiving for His eternal,

unshakable TRUTH!
