“I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.”
Philemon 1:4-6 NLT
Somehow I got pulled into working full time in ministry. I now feed my family and pay my bills based on the generosity of others and how they share with me financially. That was very humbling at first but then became a real joy. It also forced me to wrestle with what generosity looked like for me, yes financially, but God let me know quickly that money is a very small part of His big picture of generosity.
While I am a more generous giver of money today, what I’m more challenged to give freely and boldly is the Gospel itself. Some days I have to share it with myself as a reminder of God's gifts specifically to me (on hard days this is really important). But, when I’m full of Gospel truth I find that it flows out of me to others some much more. At times this may be very specifically sharing Christ with an unbeliever but more often it is a neighbor, a friend or a family member just seeing me live a life that is different because Christ is in me.
Daily Battle Order:
What are you sharing today because of what Christ has done, and continues to do, for you? Maybe it will just be a smile to a stranger, or a verse God has put on your heart that a brother needs to hear. Maybe it is a simple explanation of the Gospel of salvation through Jesus. And yes, maybe it is a generous financial gift to a ministry. Just take time to consider how you are sharing the Gospel today.
