Applying the Gospel - Self-Control

via TJC

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passion, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age,” Titus 2:11-12

Today, we conclude sharing stories about how the Gospel has impacted our everyday life.

Ever played Monopoly? If so, you’re probably familiar with the Get Out of Jail Free card. I’ve landed on Jail before… wishing I had that card, so I could get back in the game, and continue playing. That’s basically what happens once you use the card, right? You cash it in, and keep playing.

The way you play the game, your strategies, and how risky you decide to be, are different when you have that card in your possession, because you see the value in the grace that is offered to you via that card.

Unfortunately, we sometimes stoop to treating God’s grace as a Get Out of Jail Free card—an incredible, eternal-life-altering gift… yet, a gift that we often fail to fully grasp the true value of. The full power of God’s grace that changes our mindset, our various behaviors in life, and our eternal destiny, if we have accepted the gift of God’s amazing grace through Jesus taking our place on the cross and paying for our sins.

When we truly let the reality and ramifications of Jesus’ grace sink into our hearts, we say “No” to ungodliness, and “Yes” to godliness.

Daily Battle Order:

Identify ungodliness in your heart. Is it something you say? Something you look at? Something you do or don’t do?

Prayerfully bring Jesus into whatever area of your life this is. Self-control becomes a lot easier when it’s inspired by God’s grace.
