“And He answered, ‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.’” Luke 10:27
Last week we focused on applying our identity in Christ. This week we will be focusing on applying the Gospel in everyday life situations.
The passage above uses the word “all” three times. As my pastor likes to say, “all means all!” All of our soul, all of our strength, and all of our mind. That’s a lot, and there is no way we can do that ourselves. That’s why God the Father sent The Helper, the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ words who “ will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26).
So, here is a story of application of loving God and loving neighbor. In the summer of 2018, a legacy property line issue that had existed well before either myself or my neighbor owned our respective properties, became known.
Multiple attempts to amicably resolve the matter unfortunately resulted in a multi-year legal battle, with a final settlement being reached in January of 2021. Not responding in kind when verbally attacked, asking for God’s will and not your will to be done, and praying for your adversary in the midst of contention is loving God and loving your neighbor. I didn’t get it right every time, however, with God’s help, through this situation, God showed me more about what loving Him looked like, as well as what loving my neighbor looks like. Now I also know the value of a good neighbor, and a good property survey!
Daily Battle Order:
Are you loving God with all of the above? Are you loving your neighbor as yourself? It’s hard, but not impossible. All you have to do is ask for help from The Helper, and He will provide you with what you need to apply the Gospel in everyday life situations, because you cannot on your own.
