But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect. - 1 Peter 3:15

Today we talk about Charity and how Christ commands us to share all we have with the world. Charity does not always have to be money, it can also be our time, skills, experience or wisdom.

Recently I was on a flight where I sat next to a young woman, probably in her early twenties, and we spent the entire hour and a half flight talking.  We started with the surface topics, school, jobs, spouses and hobbies and about halfway through our conversation we began discussing children.  I told her how I am the proud father of 4 boys, that we are homeschooling and that my wife decided early in our marriage that she wanted to stay home and raise our children.  To my shock she said she and her husband have talked about having 4 kids and homeschooling as well and she had tons of questions since she was contemplating what it would be like to leave her career as a doctor.  I spent the next 45 minutes discussing what it was like to raise 4 children, the challenges, the laughter, the growth and the joyful times that make the hard times bearable.  The flight flew by (literally) and when we landed she said was going to have a deep talk with her husband about when they might feel comfortable starting their family.  She laughed saying that she would tell him she had a wonderful experience talking to a man who has the same type of family they want and she left with the hope that her vision was attainable.

I could have done many other things on that flight but I decided to follow my heart, share my story and to give everything I have to help her establish a foundation for her family.  I even gave her my wife’s number so she could reach out for advice.  I left the plane knowing that my time was spent wisely, discipling her on her journey.

Daily Battle Order

Today look at what you have.  What do you have to give as an individual?  Then talk to your spouse or children, ask them if they can recognize any gifts they possess and help to foster life, joy and hope within them today.
