The Marriage Bed

via TJC

“Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers” Hebrews 13:4 (NASB)

My son, you know I love my bed. The older I get, the more I love it. But not for what you’re probably thinking. It’s more about good naps, LOL. Don’t get me wrong – the other stuff is important, but as you age, it loses its priority. Let me explain.

Most men think about sex all the time. Why? Because they are horn toads? Maybe. But I think the reason lies deep within their hearts and minds. They have not chosen to fill themselves with God’s Word. You’ve seen me protect my marriage bed by protecting my mind. Ephesians 5:3 adds, “but among you there should not be even a hint of sexual immorality, any kind of impurity or greed for that is not proper for God’s holy people.” Not a hint, not any kind.

The word “undefiled” means “unstained” or “not soiled.” We dirty our bed sheets, men, by having a dirty mind, not dirty feet. We have to keep washing our minds with His Word to thoroughly cleanse it from all those images or experiences you have filed away. By doing that, you honor not only your marriage bed, but your wife (or wife to be) as well. Doesn’t she deserve that?

Do you struggle with pornography or lustful thoughts? Confess that to a brother and to God. Ask the Lord to cleanse your mind and to help you memorize His Word to keep it purified. I know that He can do that, if you are willing.

Daily Battle Order:

Go to the Lord today and confess. Get a battle buddy/wingman who can soar with you in this journey of purity. Above all, honor your wife (or future wife if single).
