INTRO to 1 Peter and Revere Christ

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”.  - 1 Peter 3:15 NIV

In Peter’s letter to Asia (minor) he reminds a new generation of Christians that

persecution for their beliefs is to be expected and that they should submit to Roman law, but to remain joyful and hopeful and respectful. And through their hopefulness and joy. will come opportunities to share God’s message with others who will ask where such faith is founded.

Throughout much of my life, I was a professed Christian, but openly told suggestive or outright dirty jokes, cussed like a sailor and picked on people (lovingly) who may not have understood my picking as friendly. Looking back, I don’t recall many, if any, asking about my faith or asking for my advice to help them through challenges they were facing.

As I’ve matured, both mentally and spiritually, I’ve become far more aware that joy and faith were not what people were seeing from me. It was only when I let Christ shine through me that others began to ask for my council and encouragement in their personal struggles. Opportunities to share my Savior with others are now plenty. I can feel it. God is using me to open doors for others that were once tightly closed. What incredible joy that brings!

Daily Battle Order:

Be respectful, calm and hopeful. Let others see these things in you that only a relationship with God can provide. The people around you are searching for it. Ask your wife or family today if they feel free to ask you for advice?  I’m sure they desire it, but do they ask?
