Saved, not Dead!

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world…But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—” Ephesians 2:1-5 ESV 

Many men around us today act like animated corpses. They wander around like zombies, from home to work and back again, guzzling down coffee just to keep them going.  Instead of dynamically tackling the day, their actions are static and repetitive.   Are you one of these guys? Do you not know? Have you not heard? You have been snatched from death by God’s love! 

Before God showed compassion to you, scripture says you were dead in sin. Not injured, not sick…DEAD! As a member of the US Coast Guard I can say with authority: Dead men cannot be saved. I can throw however many life rings I want to a man dead in the water, he will never grab hold and will never be saved. The best I could hope for is recovering the body for a funeral. This was your spiritual condition before those incredible words “But God…”, and He didn't just throw you a life ring, he tied his only Son to a tree and threw Him!  He knew that you were incapable of responding so He sent flesh and blood to hold on to you and get you to safety!  Praise be to God for His Love!

Men, if you still act as dead as you were, what good is your salvation?  Through Christ you have been spiritually resurrected…made ALIVE!  So rise, pick up your bed and start living!  Engage with Jesus through prayer today and every day and allow him to guide your life.
