“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.” 1 John: 1:1 (NIV)
The Apostle John saw & touched Jesus in person. John’s deep, personal experience with Jesus changed John, all those that John knew afterwards.
This week we’re looking at present day examples of God’s extra-ordinary love reaching out & touching others, via God’s love expressed through those that know Him. This week’s examples are also inspired by Bob Goff’s “Love Does” book.
Today, we look at “Love Does” at home.
For this author, my wife is a night-owl and rises later in the morning than most. Her Love Languages are Physical Touch & Words of Affirmation.
She loves coffee in the morning. After getting our own coffee/cappuccino machine, her very favorite coffee is now at home, better than Starbucks or anywhere else.
I asked God, “You know and love my wife so much more than I do. How can I love her more like you?” His (finely-tuned) answer: “Wake her up, consistently each morning with her special coffee. And get stencils for the cinnamon sprinkles on top.” I listened & obeyed, and continue to obey.
The result: Each time when we talk about our day, my wife says, “My favorite part of the day is waking up to Hugs and Coffee in the morning. I feel so loved.”
The picture above is from near Valentine’s Day, which she sent to her friends.
I cannot consistently do coffee (& ALL the other stuff) each day, without God’s help. It is through His work in me that I can love my wife in the way she wants to be loved.
The point here is NOT to directly emulate this example, or to love others the way you want to be loved, but to find your own examples of loving others the way they want to be loved.
Daily Battle Order:
Brothers: Pause & think now of those closest to you. Now, pray to our Lord, how does He want you to love them?
Though perhaps a simple response, it will take His strength and guidance to do it well, and even more so to do it consistently well.
Also, plan on joining TJC on the Battlefield, this 27APR at Chickamauga or this 11MAY at Gettysburg. This year spouses are encouraged to join us on the Battlefields. Registration & more at https://www.joshuacommission.org/ .
