“Servants of the Lord should not argue, but instead be kind, patient, and good teachers who gently teach those who disagree with them.” -2 Timothy 2:23-26
When facing disagreements with your boss, it can be easy to let frustration take the lead.
However, as Christians, we are called to respond with grace and wisdom. As 2 Timothy tells us, “Servants of the Lord should not argue, but instead be kind, patient, and good teachers who gently teach those who disagree with them.” This principle is crucial when disagreements at work occur. Instead of preparing our rebuttal while the other person speaks, we should take a moment to genuinely understand their perspective. Listening attentively can not only diffuse tension but also open the door for constructive dialogue.
Looking back over the years, I’ve subscribed to the “escalation of force” model in disagreements with authority. I was quick to anger, focusing more on winning the argument of the moment rather than being a Kingdom Man, and a representative of the most high God.
I often reflect on the many opportunities I’ve lost to let God lift up others through my words and wonder how many people I could have influenced positively if I had been slower to speak.
Daily Battle Order:
Take a moment to breathe, pray, and ask God for the wisdom to respond to conflicts in a way that honors Him and showcases Christ-like behavior. Ask for the strength to approach disagreements with empathy and grace, ultimately becoming a testament to our faith amid challenges. Ask your kids, who will disagree with you, how as a family we can disagree and grow.
