This week as I was watching some random YouTube videos I came across a debate about the definition and purpose of marriage. While the popular view of marriage today is that it is just a union between two people who love each other. Any two people. The benefits of the modern marriage are often mostly about legal obligations and benefits (taxes, medical, inheritance, etc). It is even about adoption rights. The two people in the debate, one a conservative Christian and the other married homosexual women. One was focused on everyone deserving to be able to love and live with anyone, the other focused on procreation and its critical purpose in the health of a society. Both were very genuine and kind to each other, seeking to understand the other's viewpoint. It was refreshing in our very contentious society, particularly in the political environment.
What became obvious in the discussion though was that there were two very different foundations for their viewpoints. One viewpoint was based on feelings and emotions, which are real and meaningful. The other was built on both biblical and scientific truths. As kingdom men we must be followers of Jesus with the Bible as our tangible foundation.
Do you know the foundations of a God designed marriage? Do you have a clear plan to be the kind of man a godly woman deserves? Have you learned that the world’s picture of sex doesn’t align with God's plan? Will you accept the responsibility of a kingdom man to protect the reputation of the women in your life (young men this includes the young women you date).
We will cover all this in the Battle Orders the rest of this week.
Daily Battle Order:
Take time right now to consider what your personal foundations are for marriage. Do you have scripture to back up your thoughts or just your feelings? If you have a wife, discuss this with her, if kids, share your position as a couple.
