Details Are Boring

via TJC

And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,”

Nehemiah 7:5

I found Nehemiah to be a compelling case to help remind us that EVERY detail matters to God.

However, I wonder how often we overlook the details of these major events in the Bible because we seem to think the details of our own lives do not matter? The details are boring, but that’s not right because wherever Jesus went and whatever He did, He was interested in the individual and the details.

Because God cares enough to recount the genealogy in chapter 7 in such detail, we should be mindful why details matter to God. Why would God care how many hairs are on our head? – because He’s making a point.

I remember my time at basic training and my first year of quals on a submarine. A time when I truly learned why details matter; and most of all why it mattered most to the shipmate next to me. Every detail mattered because in a submarine, his life was in my hands and mine in his.

As the redeemed, our life is in the hands of the Father – ALL of it. Remember 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting ALL your care upon him:” and Philippians 4:6, “EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication”.

Details matter in the lives we live and the work we do. Who’s waiting to be selected for a meaningful task while being picked for the simple tasks; maybe even picked last? The fact that we were selected at all gives us a chance to play. Be content with what you are asked to do. I’m certain Nehemiah asked someone to do boring, detailed work.

When asked to do something special, keep your pride in check. Give it all by paying attention to the details. Remember, our Savior was picked by God to do die for all, but He did it willingly – down to every detail.

Daily Battle Order:

Consider the details of your life. Consider what they mean to you. Consider why they matter to God. We recently began diving into the details of what is required for deep change in consideration of the fact that God created you for a purpose. You exist because you matter to God. You also matter to us here at TJC. We’re in this fight with you for deep change, down to the very details, so you can give Him your all - ALWAYS remember that!
